Sorbitol(chemical formula C6H14O6) is a naturally occurring hexose sugar alcohol, widely found in fruits such as apples, pears, and peaches, as well as in seaweed. It is commonly used as a low-calorie sweetener in the food industry (with a sweetness level approximately 50-60% of sucrose) and a humectant, it is widely used in sugar-free foods, chewing gum, candies, and frozen desserts. In industry, sorbitol is an important intermediate for the synthesis of vitamin C and can be used to produce surfactants, polyurethane foams.
Application
1.Food field
Sorbitol is mainly used in food as a low-calorie sweetener, humectant and textural modifier. As a sweetener, its sweetness is approximately 50-60% of that of sucrose, with low calories. It is widely used in sugar-free candies, chewing gum, chocolate and other foods as well as functional beverages. As a humectant, it can prevent food from drying out and losing moisture, maintaining a soft texture. It is often used in dried fruits, cakes, frozen desserts and meat products. In addition, sorbitol can inhibit sugar crystallization and improve the smooth texture of ice cream and frosting.
2.Cosmetics and Personal Care Field
Sorbitol is mainly used as a moisturizer, thickener and emollient in cosmetics.
