Menthol, also known as menthol, is a terpenoid organic compound with the formula C10H20O. Menthol is a white crystal extracted from the leaves and stems of peppermint. It is the main ingredient in peppermint and peppermint essential oils. Menthol generally has two isomers (D and L), the natural menthol is mainly left-handed isomer (L-menthol), here menthol generally refers to the racemic menthol (DL-menthol).
